As someone who is very interested in Tesla cars, after reading the NYT article and then hearing that Elon Musk (from Tesla) had logs that would prove the article was "fake", I was more than a little excited to see them to see just how inaccurate the account was.

Well the logs are in, and it's amazing what John Broder (NYT reporter) actually did versus what he said he did. He actually posted a follow-up article  (http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/02/12/the-charges-are-flying-over-a-test-of-teslas-charging-network/?ref=johnmbroder) to try and back-pedal on several of the points he had made in the original article, but this post on the Tesla blog delivers a thorough smack-down on John's story and his credibility. If there are no repercussions for such blatant disregard for the truth, you'd have to question NYT's journalistic and ethical standards.
